Mozilla Thunderbird Setup (File sending & spam filtering)

These instructions will help you to configure Mozilla Thunderbird to use both the file sending and the spam filtering services of Tonsho.


Step 1

  • Open Mozilla Thunderbird, then select Tools --> Account Settings

Step 2

  • Select Outgoing Server (SMTP) from the left.
  • Then click the Add buton on the right.

Step 3

  • Enter a Description of your choice (e.g. Tonsho).
  • Enter the Server Name as mail.tonsho.com.
  • Set the Port as 26.
  • Check the Use name and password checkbox.
  • Enter the User Name as 1.
  • Then click the OK button.

Step 4

  • Click the Add Account button.

Step 5

  • Select the Email account radio button.
  • Then click the Next button.

Step 6

  • Enter your Name as you would like it to appear to your recipients.
  • Enter your E-mail Address (bob@example.com).
  • Then click the Next button.

Step 7

  • Select the POP radio button.
  • Enter the Incoming Server as mail.tonsho.com.
  • Then click the Next button.

Step 8

  • Enter your Incoming User Name as 1.
  • Then click the Next button.

Step 9

  • Enter an Account Name of your choice (e.g. alice@mydomain.com (Tonsho)).
  • Then click the Next button.

Step 10

  • Click the Finish button.

Step 11

  • From the left, select the account you just created (e.g. alice@mydomain.com (Tonsho) ).
  • Select the outgoing SMTP server you created in steps 3-4 (e.g. Tonsho - mail.tonsho.com) from the Outgoing Server (SMTP) dropdown menu.
  • Then click the OK button.

Step 12

  • Enter your existing POP3 settings.
  • Click the Save button.
  • You're done!

A control to edit your pop settings appears here when you are logged in.

Step 13 (optional)

Import the contacts from your address book, to pre-authorize people you already know, meaning they will not be sent challenge emails when they try to contact you. This can be done using the import button from the allowed contacts page.

Important: For the spam filtering service to function properly, you must not use any existing accounts which pop (receive) mail from your original POP server (pop.example.com).
