File Sending
Once you've signed up and want to send a large email attachment, you simply attach
the file to your email as normal. You hit 'send' and the mail goes through our mail
servers. The attachments are lifted from the mail and placed on a password protected
web server. The recipient gets your email with an added link and password to the web
page containing the attached files. You can optionally turn the password protection
off to allow quicker access to files.
Spam Filtering
To protect you from spam, Tonsho uses an authentication system. We maintain a list of
contacts, called your 'allowed contact' list. Emails from people already in your allowed
contact list come through as normal.
When someone not in your allowed contacts emails you for the first time, they are
automatically sent a challenge email. This links to a web page where they must prove
they are human and not an automated spam emailer. This is achieved by completing a
quick and easy Captcha (see below for more information about Captchas). Doing this will
put the sender on your allowed contact list meaning they only have to do this once.
So that your existing contacts do not have to go through this process you can upload
all the contacts from your current email client address book. However, even if you
don't, they will simply be authenticated as a new contact. If you wish you can manually
add or remove people from your allowed contacts list using our user-friendly web interface.
Captchas are usually some wobbly text the user
is asked to enter (see the example below). This text is very hard for a computer to read, and filling out a
Captcha ensures the user is a human and not an automated spam emailer. Captchas are
very commonly used for signing up to web services so people trying to contact you will
be familiar with the process. Someone genuinely interested in contacting you shouldn't
be worried by this small additional amount of effort.
